5 Questions for an Eco-friend - Eco Living Ideas

It's that time of the month where I share another eco fan and ask them 5 questions about their business and why they do what they do. I'd love to introduce Jen from Eco Living Ideas an online zero waste shop, plus a very informative blog and even a community group on Facebook. I discovered Jen on Instagram and I've made several purchases over the past 12 months that have definitely helped me even more in my reusable journey. My favourite of hers is the zero waste reusable razor!

Take it away, Jen....

1. Tell us a bit about yourself:

Hello! I’m Jen, Owner and Founder of Eco Living Ideas. I am an entrepreneur, wife and Mum to two gorgeous girls. We are currently based on the South Coast but as my Hubby is in the Military, we move around a lot (Eco Living Ideas is actually on it’s 3rd home already!). My background is very varied! After college I was a Dancer for a few years and then worked in recruitment before going on maternity leave.

2. Tell us about your business and what you do:

My mission with Eco Living Ideas is to create a community and platform which allows my customers and followers to come together for all things eco. A place where they can ask questions, find answers through my blogs and social media posts and buy gorgeous eco-friendly products.

My online store (www.ecolivingideas.co.uk) has over 100 products in stock now. Everything from bamboo toothbrushes and vegan chocolate to earth friendly bleach and children’s story books.

I also have a Facebook community group which people use to ask for help and guidance and share relevant information and I have over 70 blogs on my website which offer a whole load of useful information on the products I sell, comparisons, supplier information and more.

My most recent addition to my business line-up is The Home Detox Clinic. This is an online course which offers in depth tuition and guidance on five areas of your home. It takes you through a step by step guide on how to rid your home of toxins, plastics and excess possessions.

3. What made you start your eco/reusable business - why do you do what you do?

I started Eco Living Ideas in September 2018 having been on my own eco journey for around 6 months. I spent so much time researching, learning and trying out products and found it all very overwhelming and time consuming. I then found that friends and family were coming to me asking for advice and recommendations and I thought, “I know, let’s make this easier for people! Put everything in one place, so that becoming more eco-friendly in day to day life isn’t daunting and stressful”. And….here we are!

4. What is the best thing about your eco/reusable business?

The best part for me is when someone comes to me and tells me that I’ve helped them. That can be from a social media post I’ve done, a blog, a product they’ve switched to or from one of my courses.

It means so much just knowing that someone’s journey to be eco-friendly has been helped by what I do.

I also LOVE to talk about all the products I sell. Honestly, I think I drive people crazy sometimes because I constantly want to shout from the rooftops about how awesome all these eco alternatives are!

Some of the products I stock require a change in habits or lifestyle (like shampoo bars), but other products, such as compostable poo bags or soy wax candles, are just about switching the product you buy to a sustainable, environmentally friendly alternative, and then carrying on with life the same as before!

5. Where can people find and connect with you and learn more about what you do?

You can find me in lots of places, here are all the links:

Thank you so much Jen, for sharing your journey with us. I certainly have benefitted from all that research and experience - I'm even getting to quite like toothpaste tabs!

I hope you've found it just as inspiring. Thank you so much for reading and have a fabulous week! Ruth xxx
