5 Questions for an Eco-friend - EcoRefill

How many of you have used refill shops? I'm lucky to be close to two and have several dotted around the Leeds area, and before the virus hit last year, even my local Morrisons had a refill station. They're the best way to reduce the use of disposable one use plastics and something I need to get back into as we come out the other side of the pandemic - see my last post on 5 Top Tips to Reducing Plastic Waste.

If you can't get to one easily on foot or by car, I discovered this great one all the way down in Brighton and they deliver! I discovered their vegan, gluten free chocolate buttons and was very pleasantly surprised! Plus the feeling you get from not throwing away food packaging is huge. Take it away girls...

1. Tell us a bit about yourselves.

Hi, we are Olivia and Florrie, the co-founders of EcoRefill.

Olivia and Florrie, the co-founders of EcoRefill!

From creating a sustainable lifestyle in Brighton to exploring the upcycling culture in South Africa, Olivia has always been passionate about making waste free living achievable for the many and not the few. With over 10 years’ experience in sales, training and education, Olivia's desire is to not only create a better consuming world, it is her passion to create a supportive community for individuals who find themselves at a disadvantage in the workplace. With a passion to provide continuous development, Olivia aims to train and enhance the community in providing working opportunities at EcoRefill as well as giving people the support they need to find what they are passionate about and pursue a life in this.

Florrie has been living a zero-waste lifestyle for over 5 years now and it’s had its up and downs!

After studying Egyptology and Economics, Florence was passionate in discovering an economical, sustainable and non-compromising way to live a zero-waste existence and through this journey and now vast experience, it is safe to say she has tried and tested the best ways to do this (and maybe some of the not so best ways!). With this experience, Florrie is determined to make this way of life accessible and affordable to everyone. Florrie works closely with businesses to educate and motivate them to make simple changes towards zero waste working environments.

2. Tell us about your business and what you do.

EcoRefill is an online zero waste shop selling package-free, refillable groceries, household items and more. Here at EcoRefill, we pack all your orders in reusable, recycled or upcycled packaging which can in turn then be reused, recycled or up-cycled so we have no waste going to landfill.

You will refill your containers at your convenience and with a happy eco conscience.

3. What made you start your eco/reusable business - why do you do what you do?

We believe that everyone deserves to be able to make environmentally friendly choices, both conveniently and cheaply.

Enough of the endless plastic packaging and throwaways which are unavoidable at the supermarkets! We hate landfill, ocean-fill, any-fill that not’s refill! From oregano to olive oil, pasta to pepper, we wondered why we couldn’t buy these without waste.

So, we - two sisters, Florence and Olivia - founded EcoRefill. to make it easier and more accessible for everyone to be able to make zero waste choices from the comfort of their home, whilst positively impacting the world around them.

4. What is the best thing about your eco/reusable business - what do you love to sell/make/talk about?

Our favourite experiences are those of our customers inspiring us with inventive and creative ways they are adjusting to an eco-focussed lifestyle and making sustainable choices. The achievement of supporting in a customer’s journey to be more sustainable is hugely satisfying as it all has such a huge impact on our environment and saving the planet for our future generations. We find it incredibly rewarding as well to work with our local communities and further afield in educating and creating a forum where people can come to us for advice on a more sustainable way of life. And finally, we love our inspirations and recipes page where we personally have to test run all our recipes to make sure they are totally delicious! A team perk!
